What music are you listening to right now?
Currently back and forth between disclosure’s “Caracal” and Sinatra’s “In the Wee Small Hours”. My music taste is pretty eclectic. On some days all I’ll listen to is Persian music and others all I listen to is old school rap.
How would you describe your style?
Unpredictable. I like to switch up, whether it’s aesthetic or sweats or a suit or simple everyday. I don’t feel like my style confines to a certain genre; it’s intersectional, it acknowledges the existence of boundaries and doesn’t abide by them.
What is your go-to outfit?
All black never loses. Need to go out to dinner with family – all black. Need to go to a business meeting – all black. Need to go on a date – all black. Honestly I feel like all black is the holy grail of go-to outfits. At the same time I try to add a bit of spice to the outfit by adding a color that pops. For example all black and pink shoes, or all black and a white hat – just something to add some contrast.
What are some of your favorite accessories?
APC black leather hat. I have a hat collection but this one is probably my favorite. It goes with everything and it looks clean.
What is your favorite fall/winter trend?
The subtle shades of green in clothing that are somewhat forbidden after fall months. I think it looks rugged, but also careful, and I dig the sweet spot in between.
What are some of your statement pieces?
Joy Rich jacket – emphasis on the “statement” in statement piece. I always get compliments when I wear this jacket. I feel like it says, “I played sports” but now I have retired to wear this faux letterman jacket.
If you could choose a celebrity closet to shop in, who’s would it be and why?
Kanye West hands down. He is dominating the fashion scene and I predict he will continue to dominate it. I’ve looked to him for a long time now for fashion inspiration because he doesn’t follow any rules. It really irritates me that his styles are oversimplified for the general public because his fits are actually really complex.
What are your favorite brands to wear?
Joy Rich, A.P.C., Acne. I feel the most comfortable wearing these labels because every piece they produce is so calculated that I don’t have to really think about it how my outfit looks.
What or who is your style inspiration?
Definitely my grandma – not only is she incredibly stylish but she is one of the strongest people I know. Without her guidance in my life I probably wouldn’t be half of the person I am today. I would say that it’s also because of her that I am conscious of developing my own style.
