This New York Fashion Week, Long Tran worked closely with Vince Smith Hair & Makeup in order to achieve the perfect look for his fabulous collection. After speaking with Smith, who worked personally with every model, we learned that the hair and makeup were greatly inspired by Japanese culture. The luscious false lashes and bright pink eye shadow were modeled after futuristic Japanese anime cartoons, while the delicate wire hairpieces were inspired by Ikebana, or Japanese flower arrangements.
Long Tran also worked with Jessica Tong, who created Asian-influenced nail art. Tong told us about the floral Asian prints, firecrackers, and festivities of the Lunar New Year that inspired her intricately bejeweled nails. She wanted her nail art to reflect the growth and new life that arise during the New Year. To capture the beauty of fresh starts, Jessica placed delicate rose jewels on each nail. She also incorporated a dark purple and black color palette into her designs to complement Long Tran’s collection.
Backstage at Long Tran was just what you’d expect— busy, bustling, and bursting with energy! It was such a pleasure to be surrounded by inspiring artists and to watch them create the magic that we saw on the runway.
